London, July 8 (ANI): Two thirds of the 'hesitant' Brit mothers have called upon celebrities to breastfeed in public to encourage acceptance in a new survey.

The poll conducted by Mother and Baby magazine revealed that many mothers feel too self-conscious to breastfeed over the fears of public stares.

The mothers urged celebrities to breastfeed in public to encourage acceptance, with Myleene Klass chosen as the top celebrity role model.

The survey revealed that 65pct said they would not even try it because they were worried about people looking at them.

Around 35pct admitted they were forced to feed their baby in a toilet, while half have had to flee to their car.

Overall, more than half of those questioned said they had been asked to leave a restaurant or cafe, while 30pct said they had been asked to move in a shopping centre.

The poll also revealed 65pct of respondents said they would be keener to try breastfeeding if there was a more relaxed attitude towards it within society.

"Breastfeeding is a wonderful, unique time in a new mum's life and rightly needs to be celebrated," the Sky News quoted Miranda Levy, editor of Mother and Baby magazine as saying.

"We need to change these perceptions with more positive images of breastfeeding women," she added.

Anne Fox, from the National Childbirth Trust, said: "We are launching a national scheme for breastfeeding friendly venues later this year. The scheme will help families to find breastfeeding friendly facilities in their local area." (ANI)
