Baba Ramdev challenges HC verdict over gay law
New Delhi, Jul 8: Challenging the recent verdict given by the Delhi High Court of decriminalizing the homosexual law, Baba Ramdev, yoga guru will approach the Supreme Court with a Special Leave Petition (SLP) on Wednesday, Jul 8.
Ramdev said, "Homosexuality is a disease that is curable." "Right to privacy as a facet of right to life cannot include the right to enjoy deviant sexual preferences and sexual behaviour," said Ramdev, who has filed the appeal as chairman of Bharat Swabhiman Trust.
He also said, "The high court erred in striking down the provisions of Section 377 of IPC insofar as it penalises consensual unnatural sex act of adults in private by proceeding on the basis of changing moral values and norms, and ignoring the fundamental constitutional principles of judicial restraint."
