New Delhi July 5 (ANI): According to a latest survey as many as 232 judges post are vacant in various high courts of the country.
The survey also reveals that nearly 40 lakh petitions are pending before the various high courts in the country.
There are 886 judges sanctioned to 21 high courts in the country, but only 654 are functioning. Allahabd High Court that has 160-sanctioned strength of judges, has 72 vacant positions, the survey said.
According to the recommendation of the Law Commission, the strength of judges per million population may be increased from 10.5 to 50 judges per million.
According to the sources the government has initiated the process to appoint 42 judges to various high courts, but the Chief Justices of various high courts are yet to initiate the procedure to recruit the remaining 190 posts in both the bar and judicial services. (ANI)
