New Delhi, June 28 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has called a meeting of top officials to discuss ways to resolve the power crisis in the capital at the earliest.

Several areas on Sunday continued to face power cuts, some lasting for 10-12 hours.

Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said:, "I am well aware there is a power crisis. The CM is holding a meeting with ministers to discuss what has to be done to solve the problem."

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also asked Dikshit to tackle the issue at the earliest.

The Government of Delhi has requested the Union Power Ministry to allocate more power to the city to meet growing demand.

It is expected that the situation will substantially improve by Monday with Delhi expected to get 250 MW more from either Uttarakhand or from the southern states.

Delhi's HRD Minister, A K Walia, blamed the private power supply players for this crisis.

Power cuts were witnessed for different periods in several areas of the national capital, including Lajpat Nagar, Safdarjung, Gulmohar Park, Laxmi Nagar, Priyadarshini Vihar, Mayur Vihar, Dwarka, Dilshad Garden, Naraina and Patparganj.

With heat wave conditions continuing, the power demand in the capital had shot up to an all-time high of 4275 MW yesterday, leaving a huge shortfall and resulting in long outages across the city. (ANI)
