Washington: Train crash kills 6, 20 injured

Washington, Jun 23: Two metro rails collided into each other on on Monday, Jun 22 evening in Washington killing at least 6 and injuring about 20 people.

According to officials, one train was waiting on near a platform waiting for permission to proceed when it was hit from behind by the second train.

“It looks to be the worst Metro accident in D.C. history. We"re going to investigate this and find out what happened," said Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.

As the officials are still busy with the rescue operations, the reason that led to the crash is still unknown. As of now, they are guessing that safety devices intended to prevent such crashes had failed leading to the collision.

Nine investigators have been appointed to probe into the collision, they will be reviewing the recent safety recommendations the National Transportation Safety Board had made to the city transit system, a board official said.
