Mumbai, Jun 20: A Russian-made cargo aircraft AN-124 hired by the United States violated the Indian airspace on Friday, Jun 19. The aircraft was forced to land in the Mumbai Airport. Intelligence Bureau and DGCA teams are in the airport and the crew of the flight are being questioned.
The military cargo aircraft was carrying six passengers and two crew members along with ammunition and weapons. It violated the Indian airspace when it flew over Gujarat as it came in through Pakistan without the right code.
The aircraft landed in the Mumbai airport somewhere around 10: 30 pm of Friday, Jun 19. Security forces are searching the cargo hold.
According to the Indian Air Force officials, the plane belongs to the US. It took off from Diego Garcia island, a military base near Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and was headed for Kandahar in Afghanistan.
