Kathmandu, June 16 (ANI): The election of the Nepali Congress parliamentary board will take place on Saturday.

The last date for the filing of nominations for the post of parliamentary party leader and other positions has been fixed for Friday, a statement released by Ananda Prasad Dhungana, the coordinator of the committee conducting the election, said.

Earlier, the election scheduled for last Sunday was postponed due to the death of NC leader Shailaja Acharya.

The Nepali Congress parliamentary board has been without an elected leader for fourteen months.

According to Nepalnews, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel and Kul Bahadur Gurung are likely to contest for the post of parliamentary board leader.

According to parliamentary board statute, a candidate has to obtain over 50 per cent of the votes to be elected the leader. If no candidate obtains more than 50 per cent of the votes, the top two candidates will compete again in the second round of elections.

Meanwhile, party president Girija Prasad Koirala has told his close aides he is contemplating retirement from politics soon. Some leaders had been criticising Koirala and boycotting his meetings after he decided to send the Nepali Congress to join the government under his daughter Sujata Koirala's leadership. (ANI)
