Brit lesbians turning to Spain for marriage and babies

London, June 16 (ANI): A newly launched packaged tour is luring Brit lesbians by offering marriage and fertility deal in Spain.

And, thus, a large number of lesbians in UK are turning to Spanish fertility clinics, as they seek insemination where sperm donors still have a right to anonymity.

Rainbow Travel, a travel agency aimed at gays and lesbians, has teamed up with the Instituto Bernabeu on Spain's Costa Blanca to offer a special holiday, including the option of coming back pregnant.

In Britain, insemination treatment has become increasingly difficult as sperm donors have lost the right to remain anonymous there under a 2005 legislation, which means that children can track down their biological father when they reach the age of 18.

"We noticed the increase in British women coming to us as soon as the law was changed. Here we can still offer that anonymity, so people are coming to us," the Telegraph quoted Dr. Rafael Bernabeu, founder of the Instituto Bernabeu clinic in Alicante, eastern Spain, as saying.

The clinic sees an average of 30 British women, many of them lesbians, each month.

The clinic approached Rainbow Travel to arrange special packages for lesbian couples hoping to conceive-a procedure that costs around 1,500 euros for donor insemination rising to a minimum of 7,000 euros for egg implantation.

"Two women travelling to Spain so that they can have a baby are doing something that is very special to them," said Maria Jose Rico, of Rainbow Travel.

She added: "We want to make the experience as pleasurable as possible. The treatment does not require you to rest a lot, so we want to offer people things to do and places to stay that will make it a real holiday as well."

On top of it, the agency also offers to arrange for the couple to get married in Spain, where gay marriage is legal.

"First of all we help them bear a child and then we can help them marry - as long as they meet the legal requirements. That makes them feel psychologically more like a family," said Jose Rico. (ANI)
