Bangalore, June 14 (ANI): Students of M S Ramiah Engineering College in Bangalore have designed special toys that they say would help polish the vocabulary skills of visually challenged children.

The toys include English alphabets inscribed on wooden blocks with magnets inside, one that is useful for children in the age group of 8-12 years would enlighten the children in theoretical subjects like spellings or simplified mathematics.

"Many (children) are interested in learning art, music or playing musical instruments, something like that but they do not like something theoretical subject like vocabulary or mathematics, so when we came back and we analysed all those videos and photographs which we did during the research process. We thought like we will provide some kind of education, something like through vocabulary and this happened after lot of brain storming sessions. Initially came with teaching something like mathematics but we wanted to make the toy as simple as possible, it should be simple that is the prime most thing then the most important thing is that it should be fun," claimed Sanath Kumar, a research student.

The main intention of this toy was to make academic education, truly a fun for the visually handicapped children.

In the game, during the process of word formation, the children are forced to think and memorise words, their spellings and meanings. The wooden blocks containing same pole magnets only come together making a train like structure, when the word formation is right. The gaming nature of the toy ensures the fun quotient in it. (ANI)
