Larry, a resident of Arizona was carrying a .40 calibre pistol made in Austria, along with three magazines and 35 bullets. He said to the police that in US he was not required to carry a licence for his pistol. He also revealed that he was not stopped at the Delhi airport either, where he landed from New York on May 27, after which he took a Kingfisher flight to Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Police said that Larry had come to Chennai for a treatment at Apollo hospital for some leg surgery. He also had all the medical bills to show as proof. The American Consulate officials came and met the suspect. Larry was detained under the Indian Arms Act 1959 section 21-1(A), which could get him a 2-3 year jail term.
"I brought the pistol to protect myself as I heard about the Mumbai terror attacks and I thought I should be prepared for any exigencies," said Larry to media.
It is shocking, how the gun went unnoticed in the Delhi International Airport. At this crucial time of terror threat, this incident shows the apathy of airport officials.
