New Delhi, June 12 (ANI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy in Delhi over the issue of the ongoing racial attacks on Indian students in Australia.

A large number of students from Gujarat are studying in Australia.

Modi called on Dr. Manmohan Singh, particularly to apprise him of the concerns and worries of Gujarati parents, who are worried for the safety of their children, who are studying in Australian colleges.

Modi requested that a delegation comprising senior officials from the Australian High Commission and the Indian Foreign Affairs Ministry should visit Gujarat's prominent cities and personally meet worried parents.

"A large number of students from Gujarat are studying in Australia. I met him (PM) and appealed to him to send a delegation of senior officials from the Australian high commission and India's foreign affairs ministry, to prominent cities of Gujarat and hold talks with the guardians of those students (who are in Australia) so that their worries and fears are allayed," said Modi.

Modi also met the Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy, and conveyed the same concerns to him, while extending an invitation to visit Gujarat.

Assuring him of his full cooperation in sending a delegation to Gujarat, McCarthy said Australia was taking strict measures to ensure students' safety Down Under.

"We are also not resigning at all from pursuing the necessity to diminish crimes against everybody in Australia and in this instance of course, specifically those from India," McCarthy said, after meeting the Gujarat CM.

The recent spurt in attacks on Indian students in Australia has led to widespread outrage in the country.

Agitated Indian students residing in Australia have termed these attacks on them as "racial" in nature. (ANI)
