Govt. to bring a Bill to protect bureaucrats from political pressures
New Delhi, June 9 (ANI): The UPA Government has plans to bring a Bill in the upcoming Budget session of Parliament which will have provisions to prevent bureaucrats from political pulls and pressures and frequent transfers.
The proposed Civil Services Bill moots a fixed three-year tenure for all Indian Administrative Services and Indian Police Services officers.
Once the Bill takes shape of an Act, all appointments, transfers and postings of these senior officers will be subject to Parliamentary scrutiny. And, there will be a new public service code for monitoring the performance of the bureaucrats.
According to Govt. sources, the Bill, which would put political interference in the functioning of the bureaucracy and frequent transfers on the whims and fancies of the political masters under parliamentary scrutiny, would be tabled in the upcoming Budget session of the Parliament.
A new Central public Services Authority is contemplated to act as a watchdog against political interference.
Though, the Bill may take its due time to become an Act, as it will be referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee and then put to vote in both Houses of Parliament. (ANI)
