Mumbai, Jun 9: The benchmark indices made a strong 'U' turn on Tuesday, Jun 9 as they erased all of their Monday's jun 8 losses. The Sensex and Nifty closed the session above 15,000 and 4,500 levels respectively.
The 30-share BSE Sensex ended 461.08 points higher at 15,127 and the 50-share NSE Nifty settled at 4550.95, up 121.05 points.
Satyam and Tech Mahindra hogged the trading limelight post Satyam released its numbers. Satyam shot up 10 pc and Tech Mahindra surged 25.5 pc.
Reliance Industries, DLF, L&T, Reliance Communication, SBI, TCS, Wipro, SAIL, Tata Steel, Tata Power and Maruti were leaders, gained 3 to 10 pc.
Mkts postive, Sensex crosses 15k mark
At 01:23 pm, the benchmark indices extended gains in sectors like banking, metal, capital goods, realty, private power and cement.
NSE Nifty was back above the 4500 mark and was trading at 4,514 up 84 points. The 30 share BSE Sensex crossed the 15,000 level. It surged 344 points, to 15,010.
L&T, Wipro, SBI, TCS, Reliance Communication, Infosys, DLF, SAIL, ITC, Idea, Maruti, Tata Steel, HCL Tech and Nalco went up 3 to 8 pc. Reliance Industries, BHEL, HDFC, ONGC, ICICI Bank and Reliance Power were up 0.7 to 2.5 pc. However, Bharti and NTPC were in red. BPCL, HPCL and IOC lost 3 to 6 pc.
In the midcap space, Tech Mahindra shot up 13.28 pc and IDBI Bank was up 10.07 pc. Patni Computer, Welspun Gujarat and Jaiprakash Hydro gained 6.4 to 7.5 pc while Exide Industries, Puravankara Projects, Jai Corp, Gammon Infra and Pidilite Industries lost 5 pc.
In the smallcap space, Sonata, Mahindra Life, Dewan Housing, CMC and Kalindee Rail were up 6 to 8 pc while IOL Chemicals tumbled 15.15 pc. Geefcee Finance, Spectacle Industries, Forbes Gokak and Sahara One fell 6 to 9 pc.
Mkts +ve; Nifty hovering around 4,500 mark
At 11:30 am, the markets gained strength and recovered more than half of yesterday losses. Buying was seen in technology, banking, realty, metal and select power stocks. Reliance Industries, L&T, Reliance Communication and ITC were also being supportive.
However, Bharti, ONGC, BPCL, Cairn, NTPC, M&M, Suzlon, Tata Motors, Grasim, Siemens and Power Grid were still under pressure.
The Sensex was up 240 points to 14,906 and the Nifty gained 49 points at 4,479. However, the Smallcap Index was down over 1 pc and the Midcap Index was flat.
Top gainers were Ranbaxy Labs, Wipro, Jaiprakash Associates, TCS, Reliance Communication, HCL Tech and NALCO, which were up 3 to 7 pc.
Among the sectoral indices, the BSE IT Index rose 3.5pc. Bank, TECk, Metal, FMCG, Healthcare and Capital Goods indices gained 1 to 2 pc.
Mkts choppy; SBI, DLF, RIL gain
The markets saw gap down opening following weak Asian markets but recovered immediately. The indices were trading with volatility.
At 09:56 am, the Sensex was up 10 points to 14, 676 while Nifty fell 12 points to 4,417. The CNX Midcap was down 0.5 pc, to 5,388 and the BSE Smallcap Index lost 1.2 pc, to 6,012.
Top gainers in early trade are SBI, DLF, Unitech, ICICI Bank, Reliance Communication, Reliance Industries and ITC in early trade. However, BPCL, Tata Steel, Sterlite, Nalco, Maruti, ABB, PNB, ONGC and Axis Bank were the losers.
