Multi-billion rupee scam during Musharraf's regime unearthed in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 8 (ANI): A multi-billion rupee scandal during General Pervez Musharraf's regime has been unearthed in Pakistan.

According to The News, a billion-rupee contract was given to an influential contactor on fake bank guarantees for setting up of water filtration plants in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) during Musharraf's regime.

The private firm which had been assigned the work under the safe multi-billion rupee drinking water project has only completed 20 percent of the total work till now.

Interestingly, it has also been disclosed that the firm had used Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani name to increase the estimate of the project from 15 billion rupees to 22 billion rupees.

The Director of the project, Brigadier (retired) Sikandar Javed had warned Gilani about the misappropriations through his letter, but he was fired from his job by the Ministry of Special Initiative after the disclosure of the scam.

Meanwhile, the Public Accounts Committee Chairman Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has summoned the concerned officials of the ministry and the project to appear before the committee and explain the whole issue. (ANI)
