New Delhi, Jun 6: Raising argument against the Women's Reservation Bill, JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav, on Friday, Jun 5 threatened to consume poison if the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha.

"This is tokenism. Women will not gain freedom by making a woman as President or Speaker or giving them quota," he said.

While speaking on the occasion of the motion of thanks to the Presidential address, the Janata Dal United leader said he opposed the bill unless it incorporated his party"s 'quota-within-quota' demand to accommodate the OBCs.

The theatrics which is seen as the last-gasp effort to rally the OBC political class against the constitutional amendment bill is not the only place the Bill sees its opposition from. The Samajwadi Party too has said that even though it is not completely against the bill, it was definitely against the format of the bill.

SP's general Secretary, Amar Singh said, the party “never opposed women reservation but the present format is not acceptable to us."
