Sydney, June 2(ANI): Indian nationals living in Australia have expressed deep concern over the manner in which the Indian media has covered the recent Australian assaults on students and many consider this reporting "irresponsible"

This comes as the Indian media is doing exclusive coverage of the Australian attacks and has been extensively rebuking the country for being a racist.

"There is a problem with Indian media and Indian leadership - they can't assess a situation in a rational way. It's the high competition in that industry. They all get on the bandwagon and say 'Oh racism', but it's not like that," said Yadu Singh, a Sydney resident.

Indian media has also been criticised for carrying visuals of various protests in India as well as in Australia, which highlights Australia as a country in negative light.

Reports of Shiv Sena activists burning an effigy of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during a protest against the recent attacks on Indian students in Australia in New Delhi, has not gone well with many of the Australians of Indian heritage.

"Something like this happens and they think: 'The whole world is against us. This is not a racist country. Every country has one or two racists. I mean, burning effigies of Kevin Rudd -- come on," Singh added.

Debate is on the basis that one or two incidents can't prove the entire country racial. Many fear that such negative reporting will be a backlash to Indians living in Australia for years. (ANI)
