New Delhi, June 1 (ANI): The Central Government today decided to direct the National Investigation Agency to take over investigation of two terror incidents in Assam allegedly perpetrated in the North Cachar Hills by the Dima Halim Daogah (DHD).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was formed after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

A Home Ministry statement said that two cases have been registered by the Assam Police in which cash amounting to over Rs.100 million, weapons and mobile phones had been recovered and a number of persons arrested.

"Preliminary investigations have revealed that the funds were meant for an underground group for procurement of arms and ammunition and other terrorist related activities," the statement said.

The NIA had been set up after the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008. The mandate of the NIA includes, among other things, to investigate and prosecute offences affecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of India and the security of the State. (ANI)
