Islamabad, May 31 (ANI): It was Pakistan's nuclear capability which probably saved it from being attacked by India after the Kargil conflict in 1999, and the two of the most blatant terror attacks carried out in India till now, the suicide attack on Parliament in 2001 and the November 2008 Mumbai terror strikes, renowned Pakistan nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand has said.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony IST here, Mubarakmand said Pakistan has developed its nuclear capability to a great extent.

"Without nuclear power, Pakistan would have not survived after Kargil, Indian parliament and Mumbai incident episodes," The Nation quoted Mubarakmand, as saying.

He also dismissed fears about the country's nuclear arsenals falling into the hands of the Taliban and other extremist groups.

Mubarakmand claimed that Pakistan has put in place an effective command and control system to safeguard its nuclear assets.

"Such speculations are totally wrong and baseless. Some elements have been raising such things in the past too just to pressurise Pakistan in a specific time," he added.

"Pakistan is world's sixth technologically advanced country in missile field and knows very well how to protect its nuclear assets," he added. (ANI)
