Panaji, May 31: The Goa police on Saturday, May 30 claims that they have exposed a serial killer, Mahanand Naik who has murdered atleast 16 women over a last 15 years. Mahanand Naik, an auto driver was arrested on Apr 21, is now been charged for the gruesome killings.
According to Goa police, Naik had been killing women since Sep 1994 when a woman was found hanging from a tree near Panaji. Although police made no further progress, Naik carried out atleast one or two murders every few days.
DSP Serafin Dias said, "his modus operandi was to befriend girls with marriage proposals. He would then ask them to put on gold ornaments, saying he was taking them to meet their would-be in-laws. Once they stepped out of their homes, Naik would take them to a secluded place and strangulate them."
Sources said that the most of the victims were aged between 19 and 30 and strangulated them through their dupattas. It also revealed that it was the lure of gold that led Naik for brutal killings.
