SL army arrests LTTE women wing chief Thamilini
Colombo, May 30: Subramaniam Shivathai alias Thamilini, the political wing leader of the LTTE's women force who was crossing into the government-held areas from the no-fire zone in northern Sri Lanka was arrested from a refugee camp.
Thamilini reportedly threw away her cyanide capsule and revolver before leaving LTTE-held area with other civilians. Sri Lankan authorities said that Thamilini came to the government-controlled region along with the people escaping from the Puthumathalan which was a 'No Fire Zone' earlier. Her mother Subramaniam Gowri Wijayaraja and a sister Maheshwari accompanied her.
Thamilini who joined the rebel LTTE in 1991 was elevated to the position of the organisation's political head after its leader Nesmia died in a clash with the Sri Lankan army.
