Noida, May 28: Mohammad Wasim, a first year engineering student was brutally ragged and beaten up by his classmates and seniors in Greater Noida on Tuesday, May 26.

Wasim said that he was harassed by seniors for over a year and that his parents had lodged an official complaint with college authorities just a week ago, but nothing was done about it.

However the college said it have expelled nine students and suspended one found being guilty in the incident. Four of those expelled are first year students. Dehra Dun Institute of Technology (DIT) in which Wasim is studying however ruled out the incident as a case of ragging. The DIT officials termed the incident as a tussle for supremacy between two groups.

Police have registered a case against seven students for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

University Grants Commission (UGC) had earlier finalized its anti-ragging regulation according to which a student can be expelled and debarred from admission for ragging. The guilty can also be fined upto Rs 2.5 lakh.
