New Delhi, May 26: The Manmohan Singh Cabinet is likely see its first expansion on Thursday, May 28 after it was put off on Tuesday, May 26 due to disagreement over cabinet berths and key portfolios.

Apart from this the new UPA government is facing pressure from allies like Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress for more cabinet seats.

On Monday, May 25 Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the reelected Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met to hold talks on cabinet expansion and key portfolios. It was this four-hour-long meeting that was also graced by Pranab Mukherjee that is believed to have brought this new development in the process of cabinet formation.
