UN seeks $543 mn aid for displaced in Pak

Islamabad, May 22: The United Nations (UN) on Friday, May 22 has launched a 'flash appeal' seeking 543 million dollars in order to provide aid for the war refugees in the ongoing conflict between Pakistan military and Taliban.

UN has informed that this aid would be put into providing food, schooling and health facilities to the the displaced civilians from Swat as well as those displaced due to the fighting in other border regions last year.

Calling on the International community for this generous support, Martin Mogwanja, the acting U.N. humanitarian coordinator in Pakistan said, "The scale of this displacement is extraordinary in terms of size and speed and has caused incredible suffering."

While launching this 'flash appeal' Mogwanja also said that a total 543 million dollars' assistance must be raised by the end of Dec '09.
