High security ahead of vote counting in India

New Delhi / Chennai, May 15: The Election commission has made huge security arrangements on occasion of vote counting day on Saturday, May 16.Navin Chawala, Cheif Election Commissioner said, "1,080 counting centres have been set up throughout the country". He also said, 60,000 employees have been appointed into service for the purpose.

The counting of votes for 543 Lok sabha seats will start from 8 am. The Commission has also made arrangements for the media to acquire details of every round of counting through its websites www.eciresults.nic.in. The two boards will also be set up at the EC office for displaying results of the Lok Sabha Polls 2009.

Security has also been beefed up in Chennai

The policemen are keeping a strict vigil on vote counting centres here. Rajesh Lakhoni, Commissioner of Chennai Corporation said, "Elaborate security arrangements have been made even though we don't have much issues or any threat on these counting centres. We have done lighting arrangements. We have been continuously watching the area in continuous vigil. The counting will start at 8:00 am. We will continue till the whole counting process is over,".

Tamil Nadu witnessed a record voter turnout of 68 pc in the final round of election according to official data, which is quite high compared to poor voter turnout in other states.
