Rooney wants to ram title taunts of Arsenal fans

By Super Admin

London, May 15 (ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney wants to ram the title taunts of Arsenal fans back down their throats by clinching a hat-trick of English Premier League championships at Old Trafford.

The Gunners' followers have never stopped reminding Manchester United that they wrapped up the 2001-02 title with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford courtesy of Sylvain Wiltord's goal, The Daily Express reported.

"We are six points clear now and hopefully the point we need will come on Saturday. It would be great to win it against Arsenal, too, because when they come to Old Trafford we always hear them singing about winning the title at our ground," said Rooney.

"So it would be nice to do it ourselves against them. And it would certainly be great to do it in front of our own fans. The manager has said that it has only happened once for this club in the 17 years that the Premier League has been going," he added.

Rooney admits there is a far more pragmatic reason for wrapping up the title on Sunday to give United 11 days preparation time for the Champions League final against Barcelona in Rome without the distraction of needing anything from their final domestic game at Hull a week on Sunday.

"It is important to get it done on Saturday so we can get a rest before the Champions League final. It will give the manager options for that final game.

"We don't want to be going Hull needing something so close to that final, because we know with the position they are in that would be a difficult game. They are fighting desperately to stay in the Premier League," Rooney said. (ANI)
