Spanish disco comes under fire for 'auctioning' teenage girls
London, May 9 (ANI): A Spanish disco has come under fire for inviting single teenage girls to put themselves up for auction while young boys bid for their favourite girl with monopoly money.
Granada 10, in a bid to boost business during off-peak hours, offered the highest bidder a free soft drink with his dream date at the club.
The VIP lounge came under the scanner of Spain's gender-equality watchdogs after a City Hall advisor chanced upon a leaflet being distributed outside a school.
"Auction of single girls: the best way to find your mate! If you're a single girl, put yourself up for auction. If you're a single boy, place your bid," the Independent quoted the leaflet as reading.
The Ministry of Equality has ordered an investigation by the regional prosecutor on children's affairs to find out if the gimmick constitutes gender discrimination and if so, who is to be held responsible.
Equality Minister Bibiana Aido, 32, said: "This event is deplorable, sexist, rancid and out-of-date, from another era." (ANI)
