Patnaik who has made it loud and clear that he wont be a party of either Congress or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Karat to discuss strategies on forming an alternative government. Patnaik is yet to clarify his position on the Third Front. And after meeting Karat dodged the questions of the media on Patnaik's stance on the Third Front.

However Karat did say that the BJD chief had agreed to play a key role in forming a non-Congress, non-BJP government at the Centre.

''We"re confident Naveen Patnaik would form the next government in Orissa. But we want him to play an important role in the formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP government at the Centre,"" the CPM leader said.

Karat dubbed the Third Front to being 'well-poised' noting that no party or combination is in position to form a government on own.
