Jammu, May 7: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) have called for a bandh in the Jammu Kashmir region on Friday, May 8 over to protest against the conditions of Sikhs in Pakistan.
The announced was made on Wednesday, May 6 by the Bharatiya Janata Dal unit of the state. The party has also come to the support of this move.
"Both VHP and BAJ have communicated to us that they have called a Jammu bandh on May 8 in protest against the situation created by Taliban in frontier region of Pakistan," BJP spokesperson Ramesh Arora said.
For the past few days the Sikhs of the country have been protesting against the incidents of Sikhs being attacked by Taliban militants in tribal areas of Pakistan. The Taliban has been forcing the Sikh community to pay 'jaziya' which is tax imposed on non-Muslims under Shariah law. There have also been reports of the militants forcing several families to leave their homes in Aurakzai region after they failed to pay Rs 50 million as 'jaziya'.
