Rohtak, May 8: Embarrassing the Haryana police, a young woman committed suicide at the Inspector General of Police (IGP)office on Wednesday, May 6. Alka died after she along with her husband Sunil consumed poison accusing the police of closing the rape case filed by her.

The victim, died at the Civil Hospital in Rohtak, some 250 km from Chandigarh, while Sunil is hospitalised in a critical condition. Alka had been alleging that five people had raped her in Samalkha town in Karnal district in 2008. The police there however did not register a case despite her complaint.

She then met the IGP who forwarded her plea to the Karnal district police chief. But the case was cancelled by the police who said that nothing could be found during probe. The couple, from Sonepat, was accompanied by their two children Tannu (6), and Himanshu (4). Police said they consumed poison when they failed to meet the IGP Kamaraj.

In June 2008, another young woman, Sarita, had consumed poison inside the Haryana police headquarters in Panchakula near Chandigarh, alleging that the police were not taking any action against two of its own officials who raped her inside Rohtak police station in Apr.
