RIL begins to sell diesel, HPCL gets first freight
Mumbai, May 7: Reliance Industries (RIL) has begun selling diesel from its Jamnagar refinery to local companies. The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has recieved the first consignment this week.
“We bought a 40,000-tonne diesel parcel from RIL, day before yesterday. RIL had only that much to offer us in May, as they said rest of the output was committed for exports," said an HPCL official.
Ever since RIL in Apr dropped the only-for-exports status f the Jamnagar-1 or J-1, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and HPCL have been talking to RIL. This moved was aimed at making up for the likely shortfall in diesel and petrol in 2009-10.
J-1 has a daily production output of 660,000 barrels.
