Sonia cancels Chennai, Puducherry rallies
Chennai, May 6: Tamil Nadu police said that all the election rallies of Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President in Chennai and Puducherry were cancelled due to security reasons. The pro-Srilankan Tamil organisations had earlier announced to stage protest against Sonia's visit.
However Congress party cited Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi's ill health as a reason for the cancel of the rallies. The UPA chairperson was scheduled to arrive in Chennai and then go to Puducherry and fly back to Chennai to address the rally in noon in support of Congress and DMK candidates for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls.
