Islamabad, May 6: As Pakistani security forces launched artillery and rocket attacks on Taliban in the Swat valley, thousands of civilians continue to flee embattled zone.
A local media report suggests that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) arrived in Mardan, a city in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), faced problems in getting shelter and food.
NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain informed that the country expects hostilities in Swat which will displace around 5 lakh people and said that camps had been set up for them.
Taliban on Tuesday entered Mingora, a city of Swat Valley occupying main buildings, government offices and roads following which the security forces were forced to enter the city to clear out the Taliban militants on Wednesday, May 6.
Witnesses reportedly heard heavy firing from the city and said that the military used heavy artillery to shell emerald mines at the Fizaghat area which is a kilometer from Mingora.
