Campaign in Ludhiana to motivate women to vote

Ludhiana, May 5 (ANI): A women's club in Ludhiana has initiated a door-to-door campaign to motivate women, especially housewives, to exercise their franchise during the general elections.

Members of 'Basan Avenue Lady's club' are going door-to-door making other women realise the importance of vote and motivating them to cast their vote this year.

"The main aim is to motivate women who have not cast their vote ever to exercise their franchise this time. It's generally said that women do not need to cast their votes as their vote is not going to change anything. But we believe that everybody has the right to cast their vote. We believe when a woman can imbibes cultural values in her child, she can also take good decision regarding the government," said Harpreet Gill, member of the club.

Awareness campaign by the club is thus proving to be successful as women are realizing the importance of their vote.

"I never thought that my vote would make any difference. But I want to thank Basant Avenue which made me realise that my vote is very important," said Minoo Sud.

Due to lack of awareness, housewives generally refrain from voting in small cities and villages. They avoid the painstaking task of standing in the queue for voting or going to far off places to cast their franchise.
