Nepal PM Prachanda resigns over crises
Kathmandu, May 4: Amid the crises between the government and Maoists rebels, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamla Dahal Prachanda has resigned from the cabinet.
"I have resigned from the cabinet," Prachanda said in a televised address to the nation.
Accusing the Army Chief General Rookmangud Katawal of defying the government's orders, the Prime Minister sacked him on Sunday, May 3. The Army Chief had reinstated eight Generals retired by the Maoist administration. However the President Ram Baran Yadav from the opposition was against the Prime Minister's move and called it unconstitutional.
By sacking the army chief, PM Prachanda lost the support of key allies.
