Colombo, Apr 29: The two top leader of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eealam (LTTE), Daya Master and George Master admitted that the Tamil tigers used the civilians as 'hostages' and did not let them flee the war zone.
A state run television channel broadcasted the leaders' interview for the first time.
Daya Master, the former media coordinator in the interview said, "The LTTE is still using innocent civilians as hostages. They don't let them go out of the areas controlled by them. 'Viduthalai Puligal' (LTTE cadres) have killed a number of people in Sudanthirapuram area when they tried to flee from them."
George Master, a translator for an LTTE strategist said, "LTTE stopped people from leaving, but the strong managed to escape. The LTTE killed many fleeing civilians."
They revealed that it was when the humanitarian operations started the civilians used the vantage points to cross over to the Government-controlled safe areas.
