New Delhi, Apr 28: Following the International Cricket Council (ICC) revoking Pakistan's co-hosting rights of World Cup 2011, India and other co-hosting countries will see higher number of ties being played on their land.
ICC announced that India will host 29 out of the 49 matches including one semi-final and final. Sri Lanka will stage 12 matches and the other 8 matches will be held in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh will host the opening ceremony on Feb 18 after which the opening match will take place the next day.
The decision was taken on Tuesday, Apr 28 in a meeting of the tournament organizing committee.
On Apr 18, ICC striped Pakistan of the hosting rights for the World Cup 2011 citing security reasons. This move came after Sri Lankan Cricket team was attacked by terrorists in Lahore on March 3.
