'Ready to extradite Prabhakaran, if caught alive'
Colombo, Apr 28: Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan President said that Colombo is ready to extradite LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, if he is caught alive, but only after trial in his nation.
In an interview to a private television channel Rajapaksa said it was 'almost over' for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) supremo and he could be caught soon. Asked whether Prabhakaran would be extradited to India, Rajapaksa said: "First he will have to go through our trial... And then might send him to India."
"Why should I keep him... India has the right... a man who is responsible for killing Rajiv Gandhi (former Indian prime minister in 1991), one of the greatest leaders," he added.
In May 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
