The world champion posted his best result of the year so far in Bahrain on Sunday, Apr 26, a fourth-place finish, to give the team confidence as they head into the European leg of the season, which starts in Barcelona next week.
With 13 races still to go, Whitmarsh is not ruling out a late assault on the championship.
"We've made good progress and if we can continue that progress I think we have to be in a strong position. I'm not one of those people who was saying after two races that the championship was over. I know that we have a decent step forward for Barcelona but I'm sure the others have too," The Telegraph quoted Whitemarsh, as saying.
