Chennai, Apr 27: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has committed himself to an indefinite fast to protest against the state of Tamilians in Sri Lanka.

Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo on Monday, Apr 27 will be protesting at the Anna Memorial in Chennai.

"Despite the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) calling for a ceasefire, the Sri Lankan government has done nothing. Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has killed so many Tamils. Let him consider me also. I am fasting for Sri Lankan Tamil cause," said Karunandhi.

Karunanidhi's son MK Azhagiri is also joining him on the fast from Madhurai. However Karunanidhi doesn't want all DMK men to fast with him. The DMK leaders and Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi who are shocked by the act are rushing to the spot.

While the centre has expressed concern over the issue, J Jayalalithaa-led All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief (AIADMK) said the fast is a drama to gain political mileage out of the Sri Lankan Tamil issue.
