'Concerned' US calls for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka
Washington, Apr 25: The White House has expressed concern over the civilian deaths in Sri Lankan and has asked for an immediate ceasefire in north-eastern area of the country in order to let the civilians leave the combat zone.
In an official statement the US said it was 'deeply concerned about the plight of innocent civilians caught up in the conflict between the government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers and the mounting death toll'.
The United States on Friday, Apr 24 had also called on the Tiger Rebels to surrender to a third party in order to allow relief to reach the displaced civilians.
