Proteas spinner Botha says not playing IPL because of faulty bowling action

By Super Admin

Cape Town (S.Africa), Apr.22 (ANI): South African off-spinner Johan Botha has said that he is not playing in the second edition of the Indian Premier League here because of his faulty bowling action.

There were two or three teams interested in my services, but they could not offer me a contract because of this issue," Sports 24 quoted Botha, as saying.

Botha was placed under the magnifying glass at the South African Sports Science Institute (SSI) on Tuesday after being cited by umpires for his bowling action in the recent one-day series against Australia.

It was not an official International Cricket Council (ICC) test, but an internal one by Cricket South Africa (CSA) to determine whether he is ready to be tested by the ICC, reports Sports24.

The result of the test will now be sent to CSA. If they are satisfied, a test will be arranged in Perth as soon as possible.

"I hope I can be tested as soon as next week," said Botha.

Botha hopes that there will be no further questions about his bowling action if he passes the test for a second time.

"Muttiah Muralitharan (van Sri Lanka) and Harbhajan Singh (India) passed the test twice and their actions are no longer under suspicion. Hopefully the same will happen with me," said Botha.

In 2006, when he was cited for his action the first time and failed a test in Perth, he worked at the SSI to get it to a legal status. (ANI)
