Pre-poll naxal attacks persist, train hijacked

Jharkhand, Apr 22: Just a day before the second phase of polling begins, the country has suffered many counts of naxal attacks. On Wednesday, Apr 22 the Naxals hijacked a train taking the passengers hostage, while four attacks have been reported to have taken place on Tuesday night, Apr 21 in and around Jharkhand and Bihar.

Naxals have reportedly taken a passenger train going from Barkana to Mugalsarai in Jharkhand with 700-800 people on board hostage on Wednesday, Apr 22. Later, the naxals took over a train which was on its way to the Latekar railway station.

In the other attacks that took place in Bihar, Gaya, Aurangabad and Motihari, the naxals set three oil tankers on fire on main GT road in Gaya district in Bihar. One of the truck drivers has suffered a shot and is hospitalised.

In another case, naxals have taken over a polling station in the Aadapur block of Motihari district where they have wired in two bombs. And Police are yet to arrive at the spot.

In Jharkhand, Maoists have blown up Utari railway station in Palamu district before the Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express was to scheduled to pass.

Deo block of Aurangabad district suffered a naxal attack too. However, no casualties have been reported.

Naxals have allegedly called for a bandh in Bihar and Jharkhand on Thursday, Apr 23.
