Tehran, Apr 19: Roxana Saberi, an Iranian-American woman journalist was awarded 8-year prison term by Iran court on charges of spying for the United States. However, the court has not yet issued any official statement and no further details of the case is available.
31-year-old Roxana, a reported for the US National Public Radio, has been in custody since Jan in Tehran's Evin prison. Earlier Iran foreign minister said her arrest was solely because of media activities without legal accreditation, but later the judiciary charged Roxana with espionage. Reports suggest that the journo had accepted all charges.
United States expressed deep concern over the issue. Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State said, "I ma deeply disappointed". She added that US will continue to vigorously raise their concerns to the Iran government.
