Corporal Punishment: MCD teacher still missing

New Delhi, Apr 18: The teacher accused in the corporal punishment leading to the death of the 11 year old student, Shannoo Khan is still absconding.

It has been nearly 24 hours since the girl passed away after being in a coma for a day; and the teacher has to yet be located.

The Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit has promised stringent action against the teacher and that it should be a deterrent against such incidents happening in the future.

She said, "Whether the girl deserved the kind of punishment that led eventually to her death is something which is very very sad and shocking. I have spoken to the MCD commissioner. They have suspended the teacher and also ordered an immediate inquiry into the whole incident."

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said that the child had payed a terrible prive and strict action is what is required now to stop such incidents from happening again.

National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights(NCPCR) too has condemned the act calling it 'barbaric' and expressed concern over the increasing number of cases of students being tortured by teachers.
