Gujarat Riots: PC Pandey given a clean chit

New Delhi, Apr 14: The Supreme Court appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT) for probing into the 2002 Gujarat riots has given a clean chit to ex-DGP of the state, P C Pandey; who was the Ahmedabad police commissioner during the riots.

The report presented by the SIT states that the P C Pandey was in a hospital helping the injured at the time of the he Gulbarg society incident in which former Congress MP E Zafri and his family members were allegedly burnt alive by rioters.

This comes after the SIT report falsified the allegations made by the social activist Teesta Setalvad. Now, all the charges against P C Pandey has been cleared.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat asked the Gujarat government set up a sufficient number of fast track courts in order to quicklt dispose the riot related cases including ten major cases which include the Gulbarg society case, the Naroda Patia case and the Sardar Pura case.

Bharatiya Janata Party that took a serious hit from the riot cases may now be positively affected.
