Ahmedabad/Sanand (Gujarat), Apr 14 (ANI): The world's cheapest car 'Nano' is seen by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a step towards achieving victory in the forthcoming general elections.
The shifting of the project to Gujarat from West Bengal is being touted as a major achievement for state Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP is all set to cash in on the issue by projecting it as a state related development initiative.
"I feel that because the Tata project has been successfully brought into Sanand by the Gujarat Government, it is certainly going to help the BJP. Because it will help large number of youths get employment, all people will certainly be happy with the party, which has given them this project. Definitely, it will help us in the elections," said Jayant Advani, Advani's son.
The Nano has become a major attraction for people in the state.
"It is because of the development policy of Modi that Nano has come to the state. It has become a major attraction for the people of Gujarat," said Jagdish Bhavsar, a BJP spokesperson.
Residents said they would vote for development and Nano is definitely going to help BJP in the general elections.
"Any development in any state, whether it is Modi or it is the Congress Government but people will prefer to give vote to the development. In Lok Sabha election, development is a main issue," said Jigish Shah, a businessman.
The BJP has also found favour amongst voters in Sanand where the project has buoyed their hopes for employment.
"The villagers here feel that a big project has come to Gujarat because of the efforts of Modi. So, they all feel that they will support the BJP," said Bahadur Bhai P. Majethia, a resident.
The Nano production plant had to be moved from Singur in West Bengal to Gujarat following protests over the acquisition of agricultural lands by the State Government. By Ami Sharma (ANI)
