Ranchi, Apr 14 (ANI): Maoists in Ranchi in Jharkhand call for shutdown, forcing normal life to come to a standstill.

The shutdown was called to disrupt the ongoing election process.

According to S N Pradhan, police spokesperson, the main aim of the naxals was to sabotage the election process and the campaigning taking place in the state. They also want to pose a threat to the security of the candidates.

He says, police officials are on the alert and are working day and night to maintain peace.

"Even today, 25 to 30 operations are going on in the state. Our police officials are everywhere. They are doing their work and patrolling. Our process is on and if anything happens in this period, then it is part of the process," said Pradhan.

Bus and train services have been affected causing trouble to the commuters.

Some travelers even spent their day on the railway platforms.

"Public at large are disturbed due to shutdowns. I have come here to do my work but situation here is not good. No train schedules or time-table is available. We are not able to get any information about anything. It is very disturbing," said , Rishikesh, a commuter.

Jharkhand has been forced to face numerous shutdowns in recent days as the rebels operate there in large swathes of the state. (ANI)
