London, Apr 9 (ANI): Two French women have been awarded two-month suspended prison sentences along with their husbands, after they ripped off their skirts and tops at a First World War memorial for a video.

The couples have also been jointly fined 550 pounds.

They were sentenced for insulting the memory of heroic soldiers by making the video at the Vimy memorial in northern France.

The French Court that presided over their case was told that the couples were stopped after a guard spotted their perverse antics.

"The women were seen stepping up on to the plinth of the monument and taking off their skirts," the Sun quoted prosecutor Eise Bozzolo as saying.

He added: "Then they started removing their tops, and neither of them was wearing any underwear, suggesting the stunt was planned. Who knows how far this sleazy scene would have gone if they had not been seen by a security guard who called the police."

The court also heard that the huge memorial had become a site used for public sex acts and dogging.

Bozzolo said: "The memorial has long been used for exhibitionism and other sex acts. It is an insult to all the men who died saving France."

The monument pays tribute to the Canadian soldiers who fell at the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge, which is considered to be one of the bloodiest battles in the Somme.

Both couples were also ordered to pay a symbolic one Euro in damages to Canada, which lost 60,000 troops in the Great War. (ANI)
