Rooney's injury causes concern

London, Apr 9: Manchester United's star striker Wayne Rooney may have suffered an injury to his ribs while playing in the United"s 2-2 Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, Apr 7.

The coach Sir Alex Ferguson doubts if Rooney will be able to make it to Sunderland on Sunday, Apr 11. This is causing high concern among the players and the fans.

Rooney was hit hard by the ball at the end of the first half of the United's 2-2 Champions League quarterfinal first leg at home to Porto. He reportedly continued on the field but showed some discomfort while playing.

He will be checked club"s medical staff on Friday, Apr 9. The club and its fans are hoping it is only heavy bruising and nothing serious. However, even this will cause him to miss the next trip.

The team is suffering major set backs as many of the players are down with injuries. Dimi Berbatov is still out with an ankle proble, team's centre-back Rio Ferdinand has a groin injury and fellow defender Jonny Evans is out with a similar problem.
