London, Apr 7: Sentebale, the charity organization for orphaned and vulnerable children co-founded by Prince Harry saw donations income reduced by 84 percent this year.
The charity organization that operates from Lesotho, paid out tens of thousands in wages and other benefits to staff, which was more than the total collected from donations.
The 1.15 million pounds raised in 2007 fell down to 250,000 pounds in 2008. Another quarter of this sum was spent on raising donations in the first place, bringing the organization close to being broke.
The accounts show that the charity spent 791,000 pounds in the financial year ending in Aug, 2008. Out of which 335,000 pounds was given to its 16 charitable partners in Lesotho to spend on projects such as children's homes, clinics and counseling centres.Rest of the amount was spent on costs like staff salaries.
Sentabale was primarily established by Prince Harry along with Lesotho's Prince Seeiso with the aim of helping children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and those affected by poverty in Lesotho.
